Construction Projects: What I Saw On My Visit To London

London is a big and inspiring city. I had the chance to spend a week there for a bit of work and a bit of play. I managed to attend 2 excellent conferences, although they are quite underelated. I attended Chris Ducker’s first Youpreneur event, and then later the 7th Project Controls Expo.

As I walked around the city during the course of the week, I saw lots of construction activity going on in London-town. I personally find construction work fascinating to watch; the perilous heights, the incredible displays of power in moving heavy materials around, the planning, process & organization done on paper made manifest. We humans have truly mastered our domain and ability to shape our environments.

In big cities, there’s an added layer of intrigue for me. How to do the work while minimizing the disruptions of the life in the city? The buses need to roll, and the lights have to stay on, people need to move and access and park, etc. It’s a testament to good planning that we are able to continue to build higher and better and more efficiently within a closed box already teeming with activity.

I produce a lot of videos in a given year. Usually I produce educational videos where I teach something that I think is useful to know. But I’m starting to venture a bit wider with my videos topics and this is one of my first forays into producing video on-the-spot. This video was shot really impromptu. It tells a bit of a story and it was a lot fun to create.

Here’s my take on…
