Colum is an Engineer and Project Director working for a large multi-national construction company on projects in the Middle-East. He has worked as an Engineer for 20 years in the construction industry and has held many roles during his career including Head of Engineering, and Project Director.
The Challenges
Colum had recently been hired on as Project Director for large construction company. Colum had no choice but to get up to speed quickly with Primavera P6. Colum’s employer had picked him to manage 33 key construction projects and Primavera P6 was their enterprise project management system. He had dabbled in Primavera P6 prior, but he needed training quickly to be successful and to help the company continue their momentum forward.
Colum had tried a few sessions with a virtual Primavera P6 training company, but he found that with short sessions the training didn’t seem to last.
The Solution
Colum joined as a member of Plan Academy and started using the self-paced videos and best practices to help him develop a project controls strategy in his new role.
Colum took full advantage of Plan Academy’s ongoing Support, asking lots of support questions on Primavera P6. He quickly became THE most active member of our Community Forums, while getting help with advanced topics like Earned Value, Microsoft Project conversions and graphing curves.
“I was getting great value and great help. I had to renew my membership for a second year.”
The Results
Colum’s portfolio of projects are moving along successfully. He has implemented stronger project controls processes that have helped him and his company be more effective in managing projects with Primavera P6. As a result of our support, Colum has also developed a process for importing contractor schedules that helps him identify trouble spots quickly.
“Plan Academy’s online Primavera P6 training is very well layed-out. The great thing is that it’s easy to get started. Someone with no Primavera P6 experience can pick up skills quite quickly. And I found it valuable to have support – when I asked a question, I got an answer pretty quick.”
