Hi, welcome back. In this lesson we’re going to talk about how to import project files into your Primavera P6 database. Now this is essential stuff to know not just to complete our training. You need to know how to import files but also when just using Primavera day to day, importing and exporting files is an essential skill. So let’s talk about what kind of files we’re going to import. We’re going to focus on XER files for this lesson. What’s an XER file? Well, an XER file it is a Primavera specific file.

That’s their file format, with a dot XER at the end. So a Primavera XER file allows you take data individual project out of your project and store them as files on your hard drive, then you can send those files either to a client, to a customer, to a colleague, and pass information back and forth. So the XER files allow you to move projects back and forth from different data bases. XER files are actually just big text files. You can actually open them up with a text editor and look at what’s inside. And it’s all just text. It's not terribly easy to understand but it is text.
