Setting a Default Resource Rate for the Project

When working with Resource Costs, you'll need to be familiar with Primavera P6's resource rates. In this lesson, you'll learn how to ensure every new resource assigned to your project gets the same default resource rate - an important concept for maintaining consistency of resource rates throughout your project.

Hi. It’s Michael. In this video, we will show you how to set the projects default rate for all resource assignments. What does that mean? Well, let’s do a little bit of exploration. In one of the previous video, I showed you how each resource can have up to five different rates and we talked about how we can change those rates in each of the assignments.

But notice when I add a new resource, for example, the electrician, the standard rate is selected by default. And if I had a second another resource and it shouldn’t matter which one, it’s always the standard rate that is being selected. This applies to all of these in this project.

Go ahead and remove these. How can I make it so that when I assign a new resource, it automatically picks up say the over head blended rate or one of these other rates? We can do that by sending a default rate for the entire project. Here’s how we do that. We will go up to the project’s tab. We will find our project. Click on it and highlight it and let’s go over to the resources tab.

The resources tab has this assignments default area here where you can see a drop down with each of the five different rates. So you can simply set your project default rate here.
