Assigning Calendars and using Fill-Down in Primavera P6

We'll demonstrate how to assign global and project activity calendars to activities in P6. We'll also cover how to use Fill-Down to change the calendars of multiple activities. And lastly, we'll explain the concept of a default calendar for a project.

Now that we have our calendar built, let's see if we can assign that calendar to the project. In earlier lessons we talked about how Primavera has implemented a calendar at the activity level. That means that each activity can have its own unique calendar if you wish or it really means that there is a calendar field for each activity.Let me show you.

So if I highlight any activity in my activity list here. Perhaps this Geosite investigation and I click on the General tab, you'll notice off here at the bottom hand on the right hand side, we have the activity calendar field and this is a field that exists for each and every activity. We can assign a unique calendar at the activity level. The way this is set up is ideal to allow you to have one project but use different calendars in different phases of the project.

Now let's see how we can change the calendar. Let's start with the Start milestone and we can simply go ahead and click the little button in the activity calendar field. What I see here is a list of my global calendars. Now if you remember, calendars come in two types: global calendars as well as project calendars. And global calendars can be shared across projects and project calendars are built inside and only to be used on one project.
