A Gantt chart is a surprisingly good tool to help us visually and plan work. But like every tool, Gantt charts too have their strengths and their shortcomings.

All right. Welcome back. Now, we're going to talk about advantages and disadvantages of bar charts. We talked about it earlier, what it is, and how it was invented or introduced. Bar charts is a very simple way of displaying the project activities. One of its advantages...it's being time scaled. Time scaled means there is a proportion between the duration of the activity and the length of the bar that represents that activity. So, if we have an activity that takes eight days and another activity that takes four days, so the bar that represents the first one would be twice as long as the bar presenting the other one. So, when you look at it, it gives you a real, accurate impression on the durations of these activities.

The next advantage or the next advantages are here, simple to prepare and simple to read and interpret. And I separated the two, to prepare, because it's the task of the scheduler. It's very easy to separate those activities and create bars that the position of the bar and the length represents the timing and the duration of that activity. It's simple to read and interpret on the part of those who would read the bar charts, the contractor, the owner, the design consultant and so on.

The next advantage is that it can be more effective and efficient if CPM-based. What does that mean? Bar charts, as we will see later on or as we saw, was introd...
