Before we get started in this lesson, go ahead and open the project shown here so you can follow along. In this lesson, we're going to walk through the baseline functionality of P6 Web, one or two differences that I want to talk through and comparing it to P6 Professional. We'll get to those in due course. We're also not going to talk about what a baseline is, suffice to say it is a snapshot of the project which you do your variance from, your reporting from, your progress against.

It's how you establish earned value, but we're not going to talk about that in great detail. What we're going to do is talk about the functionality and how you create a baseline P6. So, I've created a view here that's very useful for baselines. I've got the baseline project start, the baseline project finish, baseline project duration, and the variance column. So, it might be worth pausing the video at this stage and creating a view that matches mine.

So, to create a baseline, first of all, click on the Actions menu, followed by Define Baselines. Okay, so here we are in the baseline screens. If you've used P6 Professional, it's quite similar to that and notice there's one or two differences. And we'll get to those in a moment. So to create it, we click the Add button. So, here we've got the baseline name, which currently is set up as Baselining The Schedule, B2.
