We're going to look at roles in P6 EPPM's resource section. In this lesson you'll be shown examples on how roles and resources can work together and more.

In this lesson, we're going to take a look at P6's roles and to do that we need to go into the resources section. So here we are in resources administration page for the section on roles. In a different lesson, we look at an introduction to what roles are, so I'm not going to talk about that too much here. What we're going to look at is how to set them up, perhaps some of the limitations and explain how they are used with resources. So role dictionary in P6, there's a list of the job titles that can be associated with P6 resources.

Now example here, we've got some roles for it, so if I open up that, we may have a look and see what's inside. Different types of roles, business analyst, quality assurance, DBA, relationship manager, etc. And each one of those will have different bits of information attached and that's what you can see here. That's also some names signed in way of resources. Let's say I want to add in a set of roles for HR.

If I click the add button at the top, well, I can select what type of role I want to add because P6 roles are structurally based hierarchy. I can select whether or not to choose or create a sibling role of IT or a trial role. I'm going to select sibling because it's going to be separate from IT. So here we go. So first of all, we need an ID, so that needs to be unique.
