In the next couple of videos we'll be talking about project updating and we'll be talking also about percent complete and project controls in general because these subjects are related to each other. We need to update the schedule while in progress and that is part of project controls and also part of it is figuring out the percent complete, which is a real interesting and confusing subject.
Why project updating? Because schedules like cost estimates are predictions, and they're always prepared before the project begins. However, updates must take place routinely for any changes and changes do happen. Those changes could be either unintentional variations from the baseline or intentional variations. Unintentional because those things happen you know, because of weather, because of accidents, because of labor strikes, anything that we did not account for. And intentional changes such as change orders.
When the owner changes his or her mind about something regarding the project. We need to understand that schedules without updating, monitoring, controlling, and corrective action are useless.
